At the start of your ceremony, invite guests to pass round rings and make a wish for them. Pass rings to the front in time for exchanging.

 

HAND-FASTING AND TYING THE KNOT

See YouTube for demonstrations. Each bring a cord or ribbon of their choice. Add any story of why the colours. Could add a symbol/charm/token to cord/ribbon (coin, star sign, tree of life etc). Hand fasting binds hands together for vows. Tying knot raise up and tie knot between couple then drape over script till end of ceremony.

SHARING HOME/ ROOTS

 

Using a quaich, fill with a liquor of choice and toast the couple, inviting them to sip from the loving cup: e.g.“Drink to our love in the past… drink to our love in the present… drink to our love in the future.

 

Have 3 candles. Light one each for the couple - can invite a key supporter (family or friend) to do. At the end of the ceremony, celebrant, couple or another/others can take a light from each of the individual candles and light one big candle. Leave all burning to represent the individual and the couple… independence and togetherness.

 

Flowers/objects/gifts to thank wedding party – parents/siblings/friends/children who are supporting – chance to name and thank.

 

Acknowledge a (recent) death. Light a candle to represent the spirit of that person throughout the ceremony.

Each bring earth/sand/stones/gathered objects that represent home/nature/roots eg each pours soil or sand into a glass dish… mixing their roots together. (If from different parts of the world/different cultures.)
